Meet the Characters with Daryl Devore

Jennifers-comming-soon-book-web-sight-graphic-designHello and welcome to my blog for another round of Meet the Characters! Today I am featuring a guest blogger who has graciously agreed to let me do a character interview, which is my favorite kind of interview. Join me in welcoming author, Daryl Devore, and her characters from Book With No Name (Daryl is currently deciding on a fabulous name for this fabulous book). It’s a fantastic erotic contemporary romance with wonderful characters so without further ado here is the interview with Darien, the hero from Book With No Name.

Erika is a bit too shy to be interviewed at the moment, so I’m taking the stage. Hey. *He waves.*  Darien Scott here. Yup, the Darien Scott. I’m excited to be here with Jennifer and sittin’ back  havin’ a chat. So what’s your first question, Jennifer?

Did you ever think that your life would end up being in a book?

At some point I expected a biography, most celebrities have one. But an erotic romance – how bitchin’ cool is that. So yea, I’m down with it.

If you could rewrite anything in your book, what would it be?

The beginning. There were gunshots and bleeding and death. Not a fun place to be. I’d have preferred a sunny beach with babes in bikinis.

Do you like the way the book ended?

No. I mean yes on the loving Erika part, but no on the Lindon showing up part.

Would you be interested in a sequel, if your writer was so inclined?

Oh, she’s inclined. We nagged at her and it’s being written as you read this.

What do you do for a living?

I’m a rock star. Yup, I get to call myself that. Especially since I have been known to party like a rock star!

What do you find most appealing in women?

Reality. Honesty. Compassion. And a healthy dose of patience, because I can be a bit of handful.

What do you find most unappealing in women?

Skinny, stuck up wannabees. I’ve met a lot of women who thought they were gorgeous – everything was pimped to perfection. They expected me to fall to my knees in adoration of them or even worse they thought if they gave me everything I wanted I’d fall in love with them. Total turn off.

The woman I fell in love with has bad hair days, loves to hang around in sweats and a t shirt and craves Mexican food in Thailand. Oh and isn’t worried about telling me off when my ego gets too big. I just went way off course on the question, didn’t I?

What turns you on?

A smile.

What turns you off?

Those high pitched giggles that women use because they think we men think it’s sexy. It just hurts our ears.

What sound or noise do you hate?

See above

What other profession would you like to try?

Astronaut.

Are you a morning person or a night owl?

Morning? What is this word? Is that when the big bright ball is up in the sky?

Would you ever use a voodoo doll to hurt anyone?

No, I think I’d prefer one of those curses from Hogwarts. Turn the person into a ferret or something.

Have you ever thought about getting a tattoo, what would it be and where? If not, what if you had to?

Have a tattoo. It’s of a lone wolf. Got it ’cause I was drunk and thought girls would think it was sexy.

What do you admire about your parents?

How much they love one and other. I am desperate to get that in my life. They can sit on their deck all afternoon and never say a word, yet they’ve communicated through a look, a raised eyebrow or a smile.

What’s the worst/weirdest thing you did as a kid?

Lol – if I told you then it wouldn’t be a secret and there is a reason that no one – NO ONE – knows about it other than my brother who is sworn to secrecy.

Cool interview, Jennifer. *High fives her*  Not one question about whether I wear briefs, boxers or go commando. Do you have any idea how many times I’ve answered that?

Blurb:

Erika Bailey, owner/manager of a drag queen club in Bangkok, Thailand has happily settled into all aspects of her new life, except for her lack of a love life. When a new diva auditions, Erika is confused over her instant attraction to the blond God, Apollo.

Darien Scott, on vacation after a world tour, mistakenly figures the safest place to be is at The Black Dragon with the head of a Triad. When the club is hit, Darien is the only person to get out alive. Now he’s running from the police and a Triad. Mistake number 1.

Disguised as a drag queen, he’s hired by Erika, but falls hard for her, then struggles with not coming clean with her. Mistake number 2.

Can he fix his mistakes and find life and love or is he headed straight for mistake number 3?

Excerpt:

Droplets of blood seeped from Darien’s wolf tattoo, mesmerizing him. They trickled over the inside of his bicep then splattered drop by drop against the bar floor.

Dairen frowned. Why was the wolf bleeding? It was supposed to look sexy. Turn chicks on. Not bleed. He blinked as a thought formed. Maybe it wasn’t the tattoo. Could he be bleeding? He didn’t remember getting hurt. But that might be because he’d had too many vodka shots.

Expensive gold infused vodka.

An order, snapped out in Thai, ripped his focus away from the cost of the booze.

Stumbling with the translation, his gut clenched. “Check everyone. Anybody alive. Kill them.”

A shrill female scream. A gun shot. Silence.

That’d be one of the hookers. Damn. Hope it wasn’t the one with the butterfly tattoo above her clit. She had a mouth on her than performed miracles. Dude! What the fuck! Must be the vodka talking. Stay focused. There are guys with guns out there. Darien stretched his neck and peered around the edge of the bar. In his line of vision, a male leg stuck out from under a table. Expensive looking shoe. Presumably Italian leather. Probably belonged to Nai Jâhng. Darien raised his eyebrows. Wow. Somebody had the balls to kill a Triad boss.

He shifted his glance. A few feet to the left, lay a female arm with brilliant orange fingernails. He shivered at the remembrance of those nails grazing his balls. He focused on a tiny object a foot in front of him. Glass. Shards of it were scattered about. He frowned, trying to remember what happened. He’d walked behind the private club’s bar to get another bottle of vodka when, one by one, bottles started exploding. And then he was on the floor looking at the blood dripping from his tattoo. He glanced at his wound. The bleeding had stopped.

Okay, so he wasn’t gonna bleed to death. Good. Now he just had to get his ass outta here. Past them. The guys with the guns. How the fuck could he do that?

Voices interrupted his thoughts. The tones were panicked or angry and the speed was too fast for him to catch and translate, although he did understand the meaning of the three rapid gunshots and a short groan. The door at the opposite end of the bar, leading to the kitchen swooshed as someone pushed it open.

Gunfire and loud screams sounded from the kitchen. The door swung open again. Darien translated the shooters words, “Nobody alive in there. I’ll check the offices upstairs.”

Darien slid back, trying not to disturb the glass. He did his best not to yelp when a sharp edge sliced through the skin on his knee. With deliberate movements, he backtracked the length of the Black Dragon’s bar. He squatted then peeked around the end, three men stood with their backs to him. Dressed in black pants and muscle shirts, each one held an assault rifle. A bleeding sun tattoo was visible on one attacker’s shoulder. Daeng Arthit Triad. Not good. So not good. He looked forward. The kitchen door was six feet away. Six feet of wide-open, easily visible space. Darien sighed. It might as well be a six inches or a mile. He couldn’t risk it. Wouldn’t. He didn’t want to get shot.

Darien shifted his weight off a knee that was pressing on a piece of shattered bottle. What the fuck, dude? You’re gonna die if they find you. Better to be running for your life than just lay here and let ’em kill you. That was the logical side of his head’s opinion. The chicken shit side said, Stay here. Stay down. You’re safe.

I’m taking Sheri’s advice about write the series first. Except when I started I didn’t know this was going to be a series.

  2. Another arena where Dell and Lenovo compete will be the netbook
market. The best gauge of an computer’s hardware performance
is to take a look at the reviews and thoughts of people who’ve
used and, preferably, tested the performance from the computers.
Best gaming pc 1000 euro As far as durability goes, their
larger laptops are definitely far more sturdy versus the netbooks.

What good can be a gaming laptop and not using a screen that will actually render your games.
Both of those systems start at $1199, though the ASUS G51 massively outperforms the Alienware in the same price.
