Meet the Characters with Nikki Lynn Barrett

ScroogeHello and welcome to my blog for another round of Meet the Characters!  Today I am featuring a guest blogger who has graciously agreed to let me do a character interview, which is my favorite kind of interview. Join me in welcoming author, Nikki Lynn Barrett, and her characters from Scrooge You! It’s a fantastic holiday romance with wonderful characters so without further ado here is the interview with Kevin and Sasha.

How did you first meet your writer?

KEVIN: She couldn’t set her mind on a story for a boxed set of all new novellas, so I popped up in her mind. Not bad for a quick whim of a story. 😉

What are your favorite scenes in your book: the action, the dialog or the romance?

SASHA: The dialog and romance, although at first, Kevin’s sarcastic comments annoyed me. Then again, I was in a pretty bad mood at first.

KEVIN: I’m glad we fixed that problem quick.

SASHA: Which one? My mood or your sarcasm?

Do you like the way the book ended?

KEVIN: The ending had some hard things to deal with, but I ended up with Sasha, so it worked out in the long run.

SASHA: What you said to my dad was a favorite of part of mine.

Would you be interested in a sequel, if your writer was so inclined?

KEVIN: I’ve been trying to convince Nikki of this, but she’s determined to prove to her husband that she can write a stand alone. ‘Shrugs’ I’ll get her.

SASHA: I wouldn’t mind more either, since we were a novella.

What do you like most about where you live?

SASHA: That I get to be with Kevin and I’ve finally moved away from the judgmental people in my hometown. I’m happier than I’ve ever been.

KEVIN: Coming home to you is perfect. ‘smiles’

What is your most favorite memory?

KEVIN: Watching Sasha in the library in high school. I had the biggest crush on her, but she never knew it.

SASHA: ‘laughing’ I wish I’d caught you, although I probably would have thrown a book at you.

KEVIN:  I probably would have deserved it, too.

What do you like to do when you are not being actively read somewhere?

KEVIN: I keep a busy schedule, especially if we’re shooting a movie. But when I’m not working, my time is spend with Sasha. I’ve been taking her to different places around the country that she’s never been to before.

SASHA: I’m working toward my goal of fashion design school. Every time Kevin’s home, I get lost in him for awhile. Well, a long while.

Are you happy with the genre your writer has placed you in?

KEVIN: Contemporary Christmas romance? Yeah! Other than the fact that I was dubbed as a Scrooge.

SASHA: Yeah, but our book title rocks. Do you know how many times I hear people say Scrooge You! Now? It’s funny.

What are you proudest of?

KEVIN: My mom. When I went home for my sister’s wedding, I learned a few things I never thought were possible.

SASHA: I’m proud of Kevin. He had to talk about some things that most people wouldn’t, but he’s moved on from it pretty well.

After a nasty public break up, actor Kevin Wright returns to his small Nevada hometown for his baby sister’s wedding. Dubbed as “Scrooge” by his ex girlfriend’s slander, Kevin’s life and career are on the verge of being destroyed. He’d give anything not to have to tell the truth of what really happened, but staying silent may not be the answer.

Sasha Moretti has big dreams, but is weighed down by the lack of funds to get her ailing father into a facility that can provide twenty-four hour care. He’s all she has, but he isn’t getting any better. Taking care of him at home is proving to be harder with each passing day. After several run ins with Kevin, the boy she loathed in high school, an opportunity arrives that Sasha finds hard to turn down…

Between the holidays and a wedding, there’s a little madness and magic in the air. Romantic feelings develop between Kevin and Sasha, but when the truth is spoken, can they both get past their demons and let a little love in their hearts?

“Is it because I’m famous?”

Sitting in the passenger seat of Kevin’s car, Sasha blanched. He’d been quiet for awhile. Until now. “Huh?”

“Do you dislike me because I’m famous?” He asked again, his tone completely serious.

“Does it bother you if someone doesn’t like you? If that’s the case, you’re in the wrong profession,” Sasha replied. Why wouldn’t he drop this stupid subject already?

“Oh believe me, I’ve had worse than a pretty woman’s cold shoulder, even for no reason. Just look at the articles about me lately.” He spun the wheel, looming closer to Casey’s shop.

“So then why are you so desperate to know?”

“Why are you so desperate to avoid the question?” he shot back.

Touche. To be fair, she had nothing against Kevin himself. Not that she knew of, anyway. A combination of her mood and the uncomfortable situation of going to his sister’s party tonight kept her on edge. Yeah, she’d had her thoughts about him and the life he led from high school, but why was she holding that against him now? Sasha hated everyone doing the same about her and her father, and she was being a total hypocrite. Damn it!

She sighed. “You didn’t do anything to me in high school to make me hate you. Does that ease your mind?”

“Only if you’re being truthful.”

I’m an avid lover of books. I’ve been writing as far back as I can remember, completing my first “book” by fifth grade in one of those one subject spiral notebooks. I have a passion for music, photography, jewelry and all things creative. I live in Arizona with my husband and son, but dream of being somewhere much colder and stormier. For now, I’ll have to live that life through my characters and stick it out with the summer heat.
