Meet the Characters with Daryl Devore

CrashingIntoLove3DBoxSetHello and welcome to my blog for another round of Meet the Characters! Today I am featuring a guest blogger who has graciously agreed to let me do a character interview, which is my favorite kind of interview. Join me in welcoming author, Daryl Devore, and her characters from Brace For Impact (part of the Crashing into Love box set). It’s a fantastic romance with wonderful characters so without further ado here is the interview with Guy and Paix.

I’m Daryl Devore and I brought along Paix and Guy from my crash romance Brace For Impact. Getting these two here wasn’t easy.

Guy – Hey, don’t blame us. Paix is always away on a flight and when she’s home it seems I’m off on patrol or something.

Jennifer – Well I guess that leads me into the first question – What do you do for a living?

Paix – Hi, I’m Paix and I’m a FA – Flight Attendant.

Guy – I’m a Mountie – R.C.M.P. – Royal Canadian Mounted Police

Jennifer – Guy, are you a morning person or a night owl?

Guy – Night Owl. Mornings aren’t good until I’ve had my coffee, but nights are much better. I have more energy to do nightly pleasures.

Paix – *playfully slaps his arm* – Guy!

Jennifer – Since you brought the subject up – what do you wear when you go to sleep?

Guy – As little as possible.

Paix – Doesn’t matter what I wear – it comes off shortly after I slip under the sheets and into his arms.

Jennifer – Paix, what embarrasses you?

Paix – *hides her face with her hands* – Everything. I’m embarrassed about being embarrassed.

Guy – *leans closes and places a kiss on her cheek* I love it when you blush.

Jennifer – Guy, what’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy Sunday?

Paix – Remember I embarrass easily.

Guy – *chuckles* – On a rainy Sunday, I love to spend time with the woman I love, even if it’s just snuggling on the couch watching a movie and munching popcorn.

Paix – Ooh, good answer.

Jennifer – What’s your least favorite word?

Paix – I can answer that. Except it isn’t a word – it’s a phrase – Brace For Impact. At flight attendant school, they teach you what to do and what to say, but when you actually have to say it. Ooh, it makes my blood run cold.

Jennifer – What sound or noise do you hate?

Guy – *shudders* the sound of tearing metal. When the plane was breaking up, it sounded like it was screaming in pain.

Jennifer – Paix, what sound or noise do you love?

Paix – *giggles* Guy’s undercover persona is a stereotypical French Canadian with a thick accent. He drops his H’s and puts them on other words. When I thought I’d lost him, I so wanted to hear one more dropped H. When we have a…let’s call it a verbal disagreement, he usually wins by slipping into his persona and making me laugh.

Guy – H’I ‘ave no h’idea what you h’are talking h’about. Da woman, she talks craziness, eh?

Jennifer – now for a couple of fun questions. Paix, if you knew a zombie apocalypse was coming in one week, what would you do?

Paix – *snuggles next to Guy* – I wouldn’t be worried. I have my own Mountie. Guy’d protect me.

Guy – You’re damn right. No brain-eating zombie is touching you. I like your brain right where it is.

Paix – *sneaky grin* – You love me for my brain?

Guy – Your brain, your eyes, your butt, your soul. I just love all of you.

Jennifer – Guy, do you believe in ghosts? Would you spend the night in a remote haunted house?

Guy – Having faced so much danger on that Caribbean island, a house full of ghosts would be a piece of cake. Bring them on, I say.

Jennifer – Paix, why do you have 2 names??

Daryl – I’ll answer this. Guess, you’ll just have to buy the book to find out.

Brace for Impact by Daryl Devoré. What could be simpler than a routine plane trip from Toronto, Canada to Caracas, Venezuela for rookie flight attendant, Lori, and sexy R.C.M.P. officer, Guy Lapierre? But Fate had other intentions.

As he wandered through lush green shrubs, he kept his eyes and ears open. He’d need more fruit to survive. Finding other survivors would help too. What else grew in the tropics? Didn’t pineapples grow here? How the hell does a pineapple grow? He shrugged and looked up. On a tree?

Small scurrying critters crinkled the underbrush. He glanced in the direction of the noise, but didn’t spot the wildlife. A tiny lizard stood on the side of a slanted palm tree. From under its chin a bright red balloon swelled and diminished. Guy chuckled. “Sorry, dude. Not your species.”

The distinct crash of a larger animal through the bushes pushed the nervous tension up two notches. He edged himself around until he faced the direction of the noise. A bush shook. Guy reached behind to grab his gun, but found nothing. He sighed. His gun was in his luggage on the plane. Damn flight restrictions. He glanced around his feet looking for a sharp stick, large rock, anything that could act as a weapon. He found sand and dried leaves.

Placing a hand on the branch of a bush, he eased it aside and stepped into the empty space. Continuing this movement, he edged closer to the next bush. He dropped to one knee, and pushed a leaf from his view. Two feet in front of him was a woman in a flight attendant’s uniform. She hitched up her skirt, dropped her panties and squatted. Guy shook his shoulders, inhaled a deep breath and slipped into his French Canadian undercover persona. He chuckled and stood. “Bonjour, mademoiselle.”

Her face snapped in his direction. Her brow pulled down. “A little privacy, if you don’t mind!”

A flush of embarrassment was consumed by indignity as Lori glared at the man. He dropped behind the bush and shouted, “Excusez-moi. Uh. Excuse me. Sorry.”

She stood, straightened her uniform and inhaled. Then it hit her. Another person. She wasn’t alone on the island. Someone else had survived. Someone who could distract her from… No, you’ve cried enough today. Don’t think about him. He’s alive. He has to be.

Pushing the branches aside, she peered down at the man. “36C? You’re alive?”

Ma mère calls me Guy. Rhymes with de sea. And yes, I’m h’alive.” He stood and held out his hand.

Lori shook it. “I’m so relieved that there’s someone else. I was…was—” Her voice cracked. She fought to control her trembles, as relief overwhelmed her. “I was so scared that everyone was dead. And I’d be all alone. I don’t know what to do.” She wrapped her arms around her shoulders and cowered within her embrace.

Guy reached forward and pulled her closer. She rested her cheek on his bare, firm chest. “It’s okay, Lori. What a crazy day, eh?”

The hint of an accent added a sexy edge to his voice. A voice that was comforting to her shattered nerves. Her cheek rose and fell with each of his breaths. Closing her eyes, the fragrance of the lush forest and salty air filled her nose. This is…insane. What am I doing? She stepped back, straightened her uniform. “Excuse me. I…I— How do you know my name?”

Guy blinked and lowered his arms. “It was h’on your name tag. ‘Ave you eaten or drunk, anyt’ing?”

Lori licked her parched lips and shook her head. “I haven’t found any fresh water. I’ve been trying to stay out of the sun all day. But keep the ocean in view. In case a ship passes.”

“Come with me. I ‘ave a few things. And some coconuts. If I can figure out how to h’open them. No pirates seems to ‘ave left a knife to use.”

At the word pirate, a chill slivered down Lori’s spine. She peered through the shrubs at the water. She hadn’t considered any boat out on the ocean to be anything other than trying to save the survivors.

“Eh? H’are you coming?” Guy waved his arm.
