Meet the Characters with Michele Drier

SNAP_Jazz_050914Hello and welcome to my blog for another round of Meet the Characters! Today I am featuring a guest blogger who has graciously agreed to let me do a character interview, which is my favorite kind of interview. Join me in welcoming author, Michele Drier, and her characters from SNAP: All That Jazz. It’s a fantastic paranormal romance with wonderful characters so without further ado here is the interview with Nick, the hero from the book.

How did you become a vampire?

That’s a hard question…I’m not sure. The furthest back I can remember is waking up one night in the woods, ravenously hungry. I had to find something to eat, so I followed a deer and killed it. I remember being startled because I chased it down. I was faster than it was. I didn’t eat any of the eat, just drank its blood.

One night, I ran into a hunting party of other men. They took me to where they lived, a big manor house, and introduced themselves as Baron Stefan Kandesky and Jean-Louis Kandesky. They took me in and now Jean-Louis and I are closer than brothers. I’m the third in command of the entire family, after Stefan and Jean-Louis.

That was just over four hundred years ago.

What do you do with the family?

I knew how to read and write and had some schooling. Plus, I must have been from a wealthy family. I knew manners and some protocol, so they asked me to help with treaties and such with neighboring villages and families. I hated that I was a vampire, so the Kandeskys made me live for a while with the Huszars, a rival colony of vampires. Was that an eye-opener! They lived like pigs, randomly killing and kidnapping women to use as sex-slaves. After that, I never complained.

The Baron and Jean-Louis needed silver weapons and ammunition in their war with the Huszars and since I’d spent time with that colony, they put me in charge of finding or making them.

Now I manage the Czech munitions factories for the family. We make silver ammunition, knives, swords. We also make a lot of munitions for the regular world. I deal with arms dealers from across Europe and the Middle East.

Jean-Louis had been married but his wife was killed. Now he’s involved with Maxie. Are you in a relationship?

Funny you should ask. I’ve never gotten involved with a woman. I’ve dated a lot…with the kind of money and prestige the Kandesky’s have, women are always available. Whether they’re other vampires or regulars, most of them told me I’m good-looking and they’d be happy to stay with me. I wasn’t interested. My work with the family was dangerous and absorbing, and I was building the business, interacting with violent people.

Plus, I saw what happened to Jean-Louis when his wife, Magda, was killed. He was so grief-stricken that he was dangerous to himself and to the family. I swore I’d never let anyone get close enough to me to hurt me like that.

Then I met Jazz.

Who’s Jazz?

She works for another branch of the family’s business, the celebrity gossip corporation SNAP. She was the assistant to Maxie Gwenoch, Jean-Louis’ significant other, until Maxie moved to Kiev with Jean-Louis.

Jazz is from Southern California, a place I’d never been…and didn’t have any interest in going to. Way to open, to many people, to much sun. I’d always worked in the dark, night-time dealings with shady men. This also meant I could keep tabs on the family’s enemies.

When I met Jazz at Jean-Louis and Maxie’s house in Kiev, I was struck dumb. I’d never seen anyone so glorious.

What’s next for you?

Living for more than four-hundred years, I’d seen a lot of change. Things are getting really hot in the Middle East with the radical religious groups and our arms sales are skyrocketing. Great business, but we don’t want to be arming the zealots.

And with Jazz…I don’t know. I’m so in love with her that I think I’ve lost my reason. She’s going to live in Kiev with me most of the time, but has to spend time in L.A. taking care of SNAP business. I’ve never been this close to a regular and a high-powered competent, modern career woman.

It’s going to be a rocky ride! I may be too old to change.

Blurb:

Nik and Jazz, both employees of Kandesky Enterprises and passionate lovers, are having a tumultuous time. Are their difference too great? She’s a contemporary, hip, young career woman working in the fast-changing world of celebrity gossip journalism in L.A., he’s a 400-hundred-year-old vampire living in Kiev, Ukraine and running the Kandesky Munitions factories. She deals with celebs and sun, he deals with terrorists and dark.

  1. Thanks, D’Ann!
And a big thank you to Jennifer for hosting us…I’m about half in love with Nik, but then there’s Jean-Louis….oh, those Kandeskys!

  2. I’ve had some medical issues as of late so I’m just getting around to checking E-mails. I’ve read all the Kandesky Vampire series and it is a fabulous story. If you enjoy vampires with redeeming social values and haven’t read the books you should jump in with both feet!
