Meet the Characters with Nikki Lynn Barrett

nikki barrett coverHello and welcome to my blog for another round of Meet the Characters!  Today I am featuring a guest blogger who has graciously agreed to let me do a character interview, which is my favorite kind of interview. Join me in welcoming author, Nikki Lynn Barrett, and her characters from Baby Stetson. It’s a fantastic romance with wonderful characters so without further ado here is the interview with Lucas and Avery!

How did you first meet your writer?

Avery: I’ve been in her head for awhile…At least a couple  years or so, but I finally found a way to get through her thick skull     I found a way to get to her- through music…she loves music, as do I, so I kept egging her on to write me.  It’s awesome that I’m the first in a series, too.

Lucas: <Holding Avery’s hand>  I wasn’t as easy. But then again, I’m a stubborn pain in the butt. Both Nikki and Avery know this.

Avery: <Laughing> He speaks the truth….But I love you, honey.

Lucas: I love you too, Avery. So much.

What are your favorite scenes in your book: the action, the dialog or the romance?

Avery and Lucas: The romance.

Avery: Lucas has a way about him…and he doesn’t just show it to anyone. It took him awhile, but when he opened up that part of him…wow.  He’s a very romantic man.  He’s always doing things that make my heart melt…and he’s full of surprises. Not to forget that he’s always comforting me and being there when things are at their worst.

Lucas: I attribute that to you, Avery. You bring out the best in me.  <Leans over and kisses Avery’s cheek>

If you could rewrite anything in your book, what would it be?

Lucas:  I can think of quite a few.  I would have done things differently. I wouldn’t have hid things from Avery as long as I did…and then maybe that time that I was away from her and couldn’t get to her…those are some of the scariest moments of my life.  It’s still hard to think about. I’m just glad she forgave me.   I’m not proud of who I was, but I’m a better man now.

Do you like the way the book ended?

Avery <sighs happily>  Talk about romantic moments….I will never, ever forget that night. I love the ending.

Lucas: As do I. The look of surprise on Avery’s face….the way she looked at me with love in her eyes…It was a perfect, amazing ending. And that’s just the beginning for us.”

What is your least favorite characteristic your writer has attributed to you?

Lucas:  I’m too dark…jaded…and I’m too good at holding it all in. I’d like to think I’ve grown out of it.

Avery: I knew there was more to you from the start.

Lucas: I always had a feeling you understood me on a deeper level.  That’s why I could never stay away from you.

What’s your favorite thing to do on a rainy Sunday?

Lucas <grinning slyly at Avery> Well…..

Avery: Lucas…

Lucas: What? I’m being nice! <Blinks innocently>

Avery: Uh huh…sure you are. I know you better than that.

Lucas: All right, all right….rainy days we’re usually sitting on our front porch swing holding each other…either that or sitting with Avery’s band working on music.  Have you heard them? Seriously, Baby Stetson is a great band…Avery’s voice chills me to the core.

Avery: <Blushes>

Lucas: There I go again, making her red faced.  Really, Avery is talented, and she’s got a great band backing her up.  They’re working on getting a demo made.”

Avery: It’s been a fun project. By the way, thank you for having us here with you today.

Lucas: Yes,  thank you!  We should get going soon, we have that appointment. <smiles at Avery>  I hope you’ll give our story a shot…

In small Texas towns, strangers come and go… Left in a Stetson hat, on the steps of the local bed and breakfast, Avery Callimer came into the world on a wing and a prayer. Raised by loving adoptive parents, she’s never lacked for love…only the knowledge of her past. By day she works the Inn, but by night…Avery comes alive as lead singer in a band. Life was good…stable, until new guests blew into town.  Some strangers come with secrets and lies. Lucas Bennett is one such stranger. Drifting from one mess to another has left him jaded. Doesn’t matter the dramas are never his doing. Giving it one last shot to make a fresh start lands him Harmony’s Echo, Texas and smack dab in front of the tantalizing Avery. Despite his best efforts to ignore the burn Avery’s ignited within, he’s intent to keep his distance. Secrets have followed him. Secrets he doesn’t want Avery to know. Each time they’re near the other things heat up like a brushfire on a dry Texas prairie. But maybe, after the dust settles and the smoke clears, love can bloom with a fresh start.

She opened her mouth, about to argue with him. Lucas took that moment to kiss her on the lips. She reeled back, narrowing her eyes at him. “You can’t keep doing that.”

Lucas blinked innocently. “Doing what?”

Avery socked him on the arm. “Don’t play coy. You know what I mean. I get ready to say something to you and you just kiss me! Like you’re trying to make me forget what I was about to say to you!”

Lucas arched his brow at her. “Well, did it work?”

“No. I didn’t forget,” Avery fired back at him. But then a smile played at her lips. “Maybe a little.”

“So what if I kiss you again? Will that help make you forget?” Without waiting for an answer, he cupped her face and kissed her again, this time more passionately. Avery didn’t fight back. She kissed him back. When it ended, Avery looked at him with those gorgeous eyes. He had no idea what she would do next.
